A hunting dog, nicknamed "Stuckie," was found mummified inside an oak log where it had been trapped for approximately 60 years. The discovery came when the wood company Georgia Kraft Corporation cut down the tree and discovered the animal inside it. It is believed that the dog was chasing its prey, entered the log and failed to escape, being trapped to death.
The environment inside the tree allowed its natural preservation: the tannins of the bark acted as preservatives reducing moisture and preventing the proliferation of bacteria and necrophages.
